AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, June 18 By RON GURNEY Lisa Latta-trained five-year-old geldings Kotahi and Rock Island Line really caught the eye during another quiet gallop session at Awapuni this morning. Fast work took place on the No 1 grass (heavy) and on the plough (good). Kotahi and Rock Island Line used the No 1 grass and were at a solid clip throughout 800m in 49 even, the last 600 in 36.3. Kotahi, whose sole victory from 12 career starts so far was at Awapuni (heavy) two years ago, has not raced since last October, but looks ready to make up for lost time. Rock Island Line has improved since finishing unplaced at the Foxton trials two weeks ago, and has won two races on a heavy track (1400m ) so far, with the promise of more to come. Their stablemate Lincoln Dreamer (by Savabeel) worked with Peter Didham's un-raced two-year-old filly Heidi Belle (Vespa-Elegant Emerald) over 800m in 51 even, the last 600 in 37.9. Heidi Belle is a half-sister to Colorado Star (by Alamosa). Un-raced three-year-old filly St Nancy (Road To Rock-St Jessie) and a Tavistock-Cold Shoulder filly, two more trained by Didham, ran 800m in 53.5, the last 600 in 38.7. A Road To Rock two-year-old and a Jimmy Choux three-year-old, both trained by Matthew Eales, came up with 55.1 and 38.5. On the plough, a Road To Rock-Something Special filly and a Makfi-Shi Kin Fly filly warmed up from the 800m to run the last 600 in 42.9, while a Free Eagle gelding and a Teofilo gelding, two-year-olds with Peter Didham, took 42.3.
