AWAPUNI TRACKWORK Thursday, June 25 By RON GURNEY Mike Breslin's stable took centre stage at Awapuni this morning, with the trainer presenting almost 20 horses for galloping. Fast work took place on the No 1 grass (dead) and on the plough (good). Two of Breslin's better performers, Jessiegee and King Cougar, used the No 1 grass and sped over 800m in a very smart 47.4, the last 600 in 34.9. Jessiegee finished third in an open heat (1000m) at the Otaki trials last week, while King Cougar was a close second in a separate heat (1000m). Lisa Latta-trained Maidstone Park and Theliteheavyweight were paired over 800m in 49 .5, the last 600 in 36 even. Theliteheavyweight (by Zed) was unplaced in his three races late last year. Piri Piri Pete (by Pierro) and Spijker (by Iffraaj), both unplaced on debut earlier in the season, covered 800m in 50.1, the last 600 in 36.4. They are both in the Breslin barn. Little Doozie and a Raise The Flag gelding were timed 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 37.7, while former smart two-year-old Atenartin and stablemate Derecho ran an easy 600m in 41 even. On the plough, last week's Otaki trial (1000m) winner Dedoje had maiden Sheer Power for company over 800m in 48.3, the last 600 in 36.1. Dedoje recorded three consecutive placings before clearing maidens at Wairoa in February. Obrigado worked alone over 800m in 49 even, the last 600 in 36.3, while his stablemates Hypatia and Khalfani went together in 50.3 and 36.7. Desert Magic was sent 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 36.2, and Colorado Star had He's Done A Runner alongside over the same distance in 50.2 and 37 even. Colorado Star (2 wins) has a bright future. Breslin-trained Zythepsary (by Alamosa), unplaced in her three starts last spring, and a Pride Of Dubai-Valhalla Wedding two-year-old gelding, third at the Otaki trials last week, were together throughout 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 37.1. Prince Turbo and maiden stablemate Parisian Poppy (by Vespa), also third at the Otaki trials, ran 800m in 51.7, the last 600 in 37.5, and Ozil went alone in 53.7 and 39.4.
